Mr Christopher Corkery is a registered Comprehensive Nurse and completed his training in 1986. He has worked in various areas of nursing including gen medicine, ICU, haematology and oncology, and transplant units.
He worked in Saudi Arabia in a transplant unit and spent five years working at Cologne University Clinic on a Haematology/oncology ward. Since 2002 he has been working as the Transfusion Nurse Specialist in the Waikato region.
An important part of this role is to liaise between the various hospitals in the region and the Blood Service to ensure timely and efficient use of blood components and products. A key skill is to act as a change agent to improve best practice in transfusion medicine.
